LYMPHEDEMA PUMP THERAPY CLOSE TO HOME
Pneumatic compression pumps (also called lymphedema pumps) provide effective home therapy for people living with lymphedema and other causes of chronic swelling.
At Innovative Prosthetics & Orthotics, we work with patients, doctors, and therapists to make sure pump therapy is safe, well-fitted, and easy to use.
WHO MIGHT USE A PNEUMATIC COMPRESSION PUMP?
Pneumatic compression may be considered if you have:
- Ongoing swelling in an arm or leg from lymphedema
- Swelling after lymph node removal, cancer treatment, or chronic venous problems
- A feeling of heaviness, tightness, or discomfort that doesn’t improve enough with other treatments
Only your doctor or therapist can decide if a pump is right for you or your patient.
WHAT IS PNEUMATIC COMPRESSION?
A pneumatic compression pump (PCP) is a medical device with an inflatable garment (for the arm, leg, or torso) connected to a pump. The pump fills the garment with air in a gentle, repeated pattern.

This rhythmic pressure:
- Mimics natural muscle movement
- Helps improve blood and lymphatic flow
- Helps prevent blood clots (DVT)
- Helps reduce swelling (edema) from conditions like lymphedema
- Supports recovery and overall circulation
Most people use their pump at home while sitting or relaxing
HOW CAN PUMP THERAPY HELP?
Many patients report that pump therapy helps them:
- Reduce swelling in arms or legs
- Feel lighter and more comfortable
- Make walking and daily activities easier
- Support skin and tissue health over time
Pump therapy is usually part of a larger treatment plan that may include compression garments, exercise, and skin care.
